Fore the Ladies: Women’s Golf Day at The Landings Partners with Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation
Golf has always been more than just a sport — it’s a journey of personal growth, connection and lasting memories. Women’s Golf Day (WGD) exemplifies this spirit by creating opportunities for women and girls worldwide to engage in golf and learn skills that last a lifetime.
This year’s celebration, June 3, 2025, is especially significant as it showcases the vibrant golfing community at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club, in partnership with the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation.
Together, the day fosters a love for golf, empowering women and highlighting the sport’s ability to bring people together. Through collaborative initiatives like WGD, The Landings and the Foundation continue to build a legacy of inclusivity and inspiration that honors the contributions of golf legends Arnold and Winnie Palmer.
The Growth of Women’s Golf Day
As of this year, approximately 28.4% of golfers in the U.S. are women — a number that continues to grow thanks to initiatives like WGD.
WGD began in 2016 as a grassroots program with a simple yet ambitious goal: to celebrate and support women in golf while introducing new players to the game. Spearheaded by founder Elisa Gaudet, this movement quickly gained momentum, inspiring women across the globe to pick up a club and join the golfing community.
During the past nine years, WGD events have taken place at more than 1,350 locations in more than 85 countries, making it the fastest-growing female golf development initiative. This collaborative effort involves golf management companies, retailers and organizations all working together to create an inclusive and engaging environment for women and girls.
A Vibrant Community at The Landings
One shining example of a thriving female golfing community is at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. Home to the Landings Women’s Golf Association (LWGA), started in 1974, this community boasts more than 500 women who come together to play, learn and celebrate the game. From weekly 18-hole events to welcoming newcomers, the LWGA embodies the values of camaraderie and inclusivity that WGD stands for.
Golf serves as a conduit for philanthropy, and throughout the year LWGA members raise funds for the Landings Military Relief Fund and the Empty Stocking Fund and donate thousands of pounds of canned goods to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The association’s biggest event is the Together for A Cure Golf Tournament and Community Events, which have raised more than $1.1 million to fund cancer research and critical support services for local cancer patients.

The Legacy of Arnold and Winnie Palmer
Arnold and Winnie Palmer were more than just golfing legends — they were visionaries who believed in the power of sports to bring people together and create positive change.
Arnold Palmer’s connection to The Landings is multifaceted, primarily through his role in designing and building two of the six championship golf courses within the community: the Marshwood Course and the Magnolia Course. He also had a significant impact on the community through the name he lent to Palmer’s Steakhouse & Arnie’s Tavern at the Marshwood Clubhouse.
Through the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation, their legacy continues to inspire other initiatives like WGD.
The Landings’ celebration will not only pay tribute to their enduring impact but also serve as a reminder of the transformative power of golf. With activities that honor their contributions and promote inclusiveness, this event is a true testament to their lasting influence.
