Russ Wigh Art Exhibit, Island Icons at The Landings Company
The Landings Company is pleased to showcase Landings Resident, Russ Wigh’s “Island Icons Art Exhibit” at the Welcome Center during January and February of 2017.
While struggling to find time and space and working in Atlanta, Mr. Wigh experimented with fine art with black and with a Hasselblad medium format camera, including study at a school of black and white photography. Eventually, Mr. Wigh turned away from the practice for several years.
“Photography and birds have been a part of my life since at least the 1970’s.” The Wigh’s move to The Landings in 2001, and the 240 species of birds recorded here opened the door for Mr. Wigh once again to immerse himself in the art of photography.
“I never lost my affinity for art photography or black and white, which will be obvious in this exhibit at The Landings Company.” He goes on to note that, “Of the eight bird photographs included in the exhibit, four were shot at my home with multiple flash units to provide the only light. This technique can capture a subject at 1/20,000 of a second, freezing all motion and revealing detail not otherwise visible in a photograph. It is often applied to hummingbirds, but I have adapted it to songbirds as well. All eight photographs were taken at The Landings. The rest of the exhibit was shot on coastal islands of Georgia.
You will be able to view the exhibit during normal business hours, seven days a week. Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm, Saturday: 9:00am to 5:00pm, Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm.
