How to Meet People in a New Town: The Landings New Neighbors Group Can Help

Moving to a new city can be both exciting and daunting. Making friends, finding a new dentist or doctor and feeling like you fit in is challenging at first. In short, learning how to meet people in a new town is a challenge and moving to Savannah, Georgia, is no exception.

The Landings’ New Neighbors community group makes the transition easy. The neighborhood organization plays a pivotal role in bridging gaps, making connections and creating a welcoming environment where you can meet your neighbors, meet new people from the area and potentially make new life-long friends.

New Neighbors, with 800-plus active members and 100-plus clubs and groups, is a friendly, fun-filled, welcoming community group that will help you settle into life at The Landings.

New Neighbors has been helping people learn how to meet people in a new city for decades

The community organization, which is led by a 16-member board, was founded in 1990 to help new Landings residents become familiar with their new town and make friends. That goal continues today, and when you ask former and current members — New Neighbors has been wildly successful!

Though not affiliated with The Landings Association, the homeowner’s association for Landings residents, or The Landings Golf & Athletic Club, New Neighbors does use many of the Club’s wonderful amenities for activities.

Activities unite myriad community organizations

New Neighbors will make sure you have ample opportunity to meet your neighbors, develop new friendships, and enjoy a rich mixture of social events at The Landings, in the surrounding areas and in downtown Savannah too.

When you join, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in more than 30 different types of activities designed to introduce you to other people who have also moved to the Landings recently. As you participate, you’ll get to know other new residents well and begin forging friendships that will last a lifetime.

The Landings helps residents find new friends by making it easy to get involved with myriad island activities – hundreds, in fact – from sports teams to gastronomic experiences and tours that will help residents learn more about their new home. Whether you are married or single, retired or working, there are plenty of opportunities to meet people and make friends. Choosing is the hardest part!

For example, there are several book clubs that meet on a regular basis to expand your mind through reading, conversations and making new friends. There also are several community service groups that pay it forward by helping those in need in your new hometown.

Additionally, there are Discover Savannah groups that take day trips to the Port and other interesting areas around Savannah, as well as groups for water lovers who want to explore some of Georgia’s 2,000 miles of tidal shoreline by boat.
