Alex Fox knows first-hand how much of a positive impact pickleball can make on one’s life. After sustaining a spinal injury in the Marine Corps, he was looking for anything to help him healthily cope with the pain from his injury, and the depression and isolation that came with his post-service life.
“I first discovered pickleball while volunteering at my local YMCA with a program for teens called Late Night. It was not love at first sight; I wanted the pickleball players to get off the basketball court so I could dunk on some kids!” said Alex. “Eventually I decided to give it a try, and it wasn’t long before I was one of those people pushing to stay on the court as long as I could.”
Alex noticed many of the trouble-areas in his life were dissolving once he started playing pickleball. His mobility began improving and his pain was drastically reduced. A passion began growing in Alex as he started to use pickleball to serve veterans and help them get through the tough times that he himself was all too familiar with. He worked with organizations to implement pickleball into their recreational therapy programming and raised funds for veteran charities through business partnerships and fundraising events, all while traveling the country competing and coaching others.
Alex was drawn to The Landings Golf & Athletic Club because of our mission, vision, values, and our passionate pickleball community. He is committed to introducing newcomers to the sport, growing our community, and helping everyone improve their skills while incorporating creativity into lessons to keep it fresh and fun.
“Pickleball is unique in that there is something for everyone within this sport. It has a short learning curve so you can be enjoying your time on the court quickly after picking up a paddle for the first time,” said Alex. “There is a good reason pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America. That also means there are people across the country who are stepping onto the court for the first time each day, and there are countless people like myself who are eager to welcome you to it.”
