The Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club Returns

For the seventh year, The Landings Golf & Athletic Club will host the Club Car Championship, a Korn Ferry Tour event. Players will tee off from the Landings’ renowned Deer Creek golf course on April 1, known as the Club Car Championship Monday Qualifier. The tournament continues through April 7.

This year the Golf Channel will broadcast all four rounds of the 72-hole competition, one of only three televised regular-season events on the Korn Ferry schedule, a stepping stone for aspiring golfers hoping to make it to the prestigious PGA TOUR. The Club Car’s top players will receive one of 30 PGA TOUR cards for the following season. The top golfer will walk away with $1 million, the Club Car Championship payout.

“This is an amazing opportunity to welcome a national and international audience to the drama of the Club Car Championship in Savannah and the golf cart lifestyle at one of the country’s premier residential communities,” said Club Car President Mark Wagner.

Playing the Course: Deer Creek

Golfers compete on our championship-caliber Deer Creek golf course, and our crews are hard at work getting the course ready. We are excited to give the players a championship-caliber experience.

Rolling sand traps and greens surrounded by lush trees are the highlight of this Deer Creek golf course designed by Tom Fazio.

Deer Creek is known for its wide fairways and par threes, which are, as a group, the toughest on Skidaway Island. The 18th hole is a beautiful par five, played along – and then over – the marsh to the green.

The course was designed by esteemed golf course architect Tom Fazio in 1991. Fazio is known for blending creativity, strategy and the course location’s natural environment into his designs.

Fazio began his career in golf course construction when he was a teenager, working alongside his uncle, George Fazio. In 1972, Fazio established his firm in Jupiter, Fla.

Since then, Fazio has designed and built more than 200 courses, 46 of which rank among Golf Digest’s top 200 courses in the United States, and the publication has named Fazio “Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect” three times.

In 2009, Fazio returned to Deer Creek to oversee the course’s modernization. Greens were rebuilt, closely mown chipping swales were added, and the irrigation system and cart paths were completely redone.

Long-Time Resident, First-Time Club Car Championship Spectator

If you’re a resident of The Landings and this is your first time experiencing the Club Car Championship, you are in for a treat. Watching championship golf in person is an experience unlike any other.

If it’s your first time, here are some timely tips on how to enjoy a live golf match:

  1. Wear comfortable attire: That includes comfortable shoes. You could be on your feet for a while, so supportive footwear is essential. Dress in comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather and toss in a lightweight jacket just to be prepared.
  2. Watch for weather changes: Check the forecast before heading to the fairway. Pack essentials like a rain poncho or umbrella if need be. Layer clothing to adapt to temperature variations.
  3. Stay hydrated: Bring a refillable water bottle and drink plenty of fluids. Additionally, wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
  4. Bring binoculars: Carrying binoculars allows you to zoom in and get a closer view of the action, especially when players are on the far end of the fairway or green.
  5. Choose a strategic spot on the fairway: Rather than walk the course, find a spot along the fairway of a particular hole and watch each golfer play through. Not only will you see the action up close, but you can observe different playing styles. Reserve your spot with a foldable chair and be respectful by assuring you’re not obstructing someone else’s view.
  6. Consider viewing from a putting green: Another viewing option is to find a spot greenside. This allows you to watch shots into the green, as well as observe chips, bunker shots, and putts.
  7. Learn golf etiquette: Familiarize yourself with basic golf etiquette. Be respectful of players, fellow spectators, and the course. Avoid talking during players’ swings and follow any specific rules or guidelines provided by the tournament organizers.
  8. Respect quiet zones: Some areas may be designated as quiet zones. When players are about to putt or tee off, maintain silence. Golfers appreciate a focused environment during critical moments.

Landings Golf & Athletic Club members receive two complimentary tickets per day and can purchase additional tickets for $10 (note that Saturday tickets cost $20 and include the Yacht Rock Revue Concert). Landings residents who are not Club members, along with the general public, can purchase tickets for $10.

Since the Club Car Championship will be televised on the Golf Channel, consider organizing a viewing party to enjoy the rounds you don’t attend or enjoying the tournament at one of The Landings Golf & Athletic Clubs’ pubs.
